The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Navy Wednesday successfully conducted the maiden flight-test of indigenously-developed Naval anti-ship missile launched from a Naval helicopter from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the coast of Odisha. The mission met all its objectives. It is the first indigenous air launched anti-ship missile sy em developed for the Indian Navy.

On this day in history, on 18 May 1974, India's first successful nuclear bomb test was conducted at the Pokhran Test Range of the Indian Army located in Rajasthan.

The assigned code name for this test was "Smiling Buddha".

With this, India became the sixth nuclear power.

India shocked the world by testing this atomic bomb.
